Ported my old geek blog’s theme to Wordpress
If you read this blog on the web, you may have noticed that the whole site looks different. I’ve never been too fond of the default Wordpress theme, and didn’t like any of the other Wordpress themes that I’ve seen, enough to use them.
I did always like the theme I had on my old Blogger geek blog, but that theme was not available for Wordpress. The theme is called “Rounders 3″, originally designed by Douglas Bowman.
So, I hacked apart a page from my old geek blog, and did some reading about Wordpress theme development (see links section below), and worked on building a Wordpress theme based my old geek blog’s theme. Today, I decided to go ahead and switch this blog to use that newly-ported theme.
Here are two screenshots, for comparison:

I don’t really have one, except that the sidebar seems to have gratuitous use of underlining EVERY link.. and also, as I type this comment, my typing extends into the sidebar and I can’t see everything I type….

ClintJCL:
Thanks for pointing out the comment textarea problem. I’ve fixed that, now.
As for the underlined links, the original “Rounders 3″ template was like that, as well, but I agree that it’s kind of excessive. I will look into changing the link styles in the near future.
I also reduced the number of Recent Posts and Recent Comments in the sidebar, removed a redundant “About Me” link, and condensed the Categories and Archives sidebar sections into select boxes, since they were both taking up WAY too much space.

I like this look, it’s clean, yet colorful. I do agree with Clint that removing the underlines from the links would look nicer. It’s an easy addition to your CSS for A tags:
text-decoration:none;
Should do it. : )

@Ryan Somma:
Thanks for the tip, Ryan. I made an initial attempt at removing the underline from the sidebar links, after reading your comment a few weeks ago. I never got around to finishing it. If you look at the sidebar, though, you can see that the bottom sections are no longer underlined. I think the top ones needed a little more effort, because they are displayed in a totally different manner behind the scenes.

Hello! You have no idea how hard I have been looking for a theme with rounded boxes like this. I’m new to WordPress, but I just love the clean style this has.
I was wondering if you would be willing to make the theme available if I promise fervently to fully credit and link you? :) Of course I’ll change the colors, header, and other bits … but the little rounded parts make me happy. :) Many thanks!
